Precursor Manipulator is an upgrade of vanilla Matter Manipulator. It can't be unlocked via the Research tree, but you can find its blueprint in Precursor biomes. It starts with 8x8 area, better distance and mining speed.

You can replace existing Matter Manipulator by using Shift+right click on the Personal Tricorder and moving it into the Matter Manipulator's slot.

Upgrades

• It doesn't matter if the previous/vanilla Matter Manipulator had any upgrades e.g. speed or area increases - a newly installed Precursor Manipulator starts from a clean slate (no speed/distance/area upgrades), with the exception of Wiring Mode and Paint Mode, which are retained. Liquid collection is unlocked by default.
• After you install a Precursor Manipulator, you can upgrade it further (with upgrades like "+300% speed"). For example, its mining area can be increased up to 11x11.
