Matter Staff is a high-tech alternate mining tool. It mines the blocks by targeting them with a controllable flying orb (which follows your cursor for up to 20 seconds, and then disappears).

Left-click creates an orb that can mine foreground blocks, right-click - background blocks.

It mines in a circular area with radius 3 (5x5 square without 3 blocks in each corner) and inflicts many 5 block damage ticks per second. Weak blocks like Dirt will be mined almost instantly.

Other mechanics

  • The orb can "grab" the monsters and drag them around, but won't do any damage to them. That won't cause them to aggro on the player.
  • The orb doesn't affect the player.
  • The orb doesn't interact with liquids.
  • The orb can move items that are lying on the ground (including the blocks that you just mined).
  • Matter Staff can be used at significant distance from the blocks that you are mining (far exceeding Mining Laser or Master Manipulator by this parameter).

  • Gravity Wand - orb that can move the player, but doesn't interact with blocks.
