REAPER ATTACKS.gif

An unusual and deadly eldritch abomination. Whether this creature is a doomed spirit twisted by the unknown, or cursed aberration is unknown. A creature of two realms, the Flesh Reaper shifts between the material plane, and a realm that is dark, cold, and foreign to the memories of the few that have gazed into it and lived. Held together by pulsing materials of unknown origins, the air around this creature seems to shape and form with deadly intent. The energy from which this creature pulls it's power is foreign to all that have attempted to study these apparitions. Preferring to hover close to the atmosphere of a planet, these creatures appear to strike at a target when they are vulnerable.

Capable of quick flight, this creature can track down and strike at targets found in the open in which they float. The projectiles fired from this creature have surprising range, able to hit targets with decent accuracy from a distance. (Gif depicting attacks below) Additionally, these attacks bounce and so fighting in close quarters can prove to be more dangerous than at range. The second primary attack, is a gap-closing slash. This attack pulls the Flesh Reaper closer to a target, has a large hitbox due to it's absurdly long animation, and can be used in quick succession when in close combat. Lastly, this creature can release "clouds of suffering" that deal high damage to nearby targets.

Flesh Reapers can be found on Eldritch Field minibiomes, Atropus worlds, Elder Core, Flesh Blobs, Gas GIants along with Gas Bag, and the Delta Freya II mission. They may also be encountered as targets of various NPC quests.

Attacks

Bone Vomit - vomits multiple bones with a base damage of 9, and a cooldown of 10 seconds

Swoop - swoops like a bird, hitting for a base damage of 8 (slash, physical damage) and inflicting insanity on contact, cooldown of 1 second

Atropus magnorb - throws a bloody meat like appendage that bounces on terrain, base damage of 10 and cooldown of 4.5 seconds

Shadow cloud breath - fire a slow single shadow cloud at target, base damage of 12 and cooldown of 10 seconds

Luna's Lab Notes

~ There are three different color schemes of Flesh Reaper, all of which use the same attack patters, stats, and files. The only difference is the color patterns and slight designs used.

~ The attack animation used for the Flesh Reaper's ranged blast attack is 13+ frames long, which leaves an awkward pause at the end of it's attack animation. The attack does bounce however, and so perhaps it's hand raised is supposed to signify that it is controlling the projectile.

~ Flying up into the atmosphere of certain planets, one might find Elder Stone Meteors - circling these meteors, one can find these monsters. I am uncertain as to what leads to the different varieties to spawn, or what conditions effects colors / types.

Bugs:

  • If selected as a target of an NPC's item retrieval quest and Captured, the quest may not progress and the compass will keep pointing to the spawned location of the Flesh Reaper with the objective to kill it. Dropping and picking up the required item may fix this issue after a short delay.
