Unlocked by Powered Smelting (Electronics tree).

Electric Furnace automatically smelts 2 ores into 1 bar (e.g. Iron Ore into Iron Bar) and has a small chance to produce additional materials. Its speed is 1 operation per second.

It can smelt ores of Common and Uncommon rarity (all tier 1-3 ores, as well at Durasteel Ore, which is tier 4). Later in the game it gets replaced by Blast Furnace, which can smelt Rare ores and produces more additional materials.
