The Transmutation Matrix is a very valuable reward that can be obtained by completing quest chapters in your Personal Tricorder. The completion of "Miscellaneous Tasks" questline gives you one Transmutation Matrix, while "Battle" questline grants another two. Some high tiered quests, such as Mount Gigant, also offer one or even multiple Transmutation Matrices as a reward. You can very rarely find it as a Precursor loot or Fossil Treasure.
It works the same way as Cosmic Crucible, offering 1 upgrade at zero cost (doesn't need any Ancient Essence regardless of the item's tier).
Transmutation Matrix disappears after use.
