The Faulty Erchius Converter can be found in Precursor Dungeons. A broken version of the Erchius Converter that looks virtually identical to the real thing, it instead turns fuel into Bags of Farts and the latter into Crunchy Chicks. You can tell the difference between the working and faulty versions by checking its description.
Tips
Ironically enough, two Faulty devices (when paired with a working one) can be far more useful for producing ancient essence than two working ones, due to the fact that Crunchy Chicks can be produced faster with less resources than precursor fuel can.
