Slimes are tiny gelatinous creatures. Most types of slimes are simple-natured, and will attempt to feed on any available food source without discrimination or forethought. However, a rare few, if fed frequently, seem to become attached to the feeder. While capable of absorbing almost anything, slimes need at least water and some protein to survive. Additionally, slimes are able to grow in size when absorbing various types of liquids in their environment. It is believed that the intake of certain liquids can contribute to the adaptations, and numerous varieties of slimes known today. Upon growing to a sizable mass, a slime will split into smaller, less intelligent and powerful versions of itself as a result of destruction or reproduction.

The Slime attacks in a straightforward fashion, hopping and sliding toward a source of food which includes both travellers, livestock and colonists. Upon reaching a target, the slime will attempt to dissolve said food, doing contact damage. These Slime Micros are typically birthed when a larger Slime ruptures when defeated.

Slimes can be found on any kind of ______ world, and _______ biomes.

Notes

  • Travellers using the Slime armour set will periodically secrete Slimes or their Micro variants around them. These are friendly to the summoner, their pets and companions. However, they will not accompany their summoner like most companions would and will simply bounce around and attack anything else in sight. This extends to neutral NPCs, critters and even farm animals.

Luna's Lab Notes

~ The Slime is the most common form of slime (as one would imagine, hence the name). The OG, this gooey creature secreates slime when attacked, inflicts no status ailments, and no special attacks or abilities.

~ Feeding a micro slime of any variety an Endomorphic Jelly causes it to grow into an adult basic Slime. This process kills the micro slime and replaces it with a spawned hostile slime. This is true of captured slimes. Interestingly enough, when a captured adult slime dies, it will spawn two smaller friendly versions of itself. These two versions can be recombined into one at the Pet Healing Station, or summoned and recalled until death, giving this creature "multiple lives". This contributes to the idea that a slime that divides is simply a copy of the original, rather than a new being - as it's alliances and preferences remain upon dividing.

~ The sprite sheet used for this creature possess an added image of the head of the Slime costume found in game. Both the slimes found in game, and the costume share a striking resemblance - One may even draw the conclusion that the race of sentient slimes are a descendant, or highly evolved form of the more common slimes found here.

~ It appears there are mechanics for something called "Golemmancer" in which the ectoslime can be raised and even, perhaps befriended. I am intrigued and will do further research on this matter!

~ Thought to be the weakest enemy in any type of dungeon, adventure, or RPG, the slime falls easily to attacks and poses little threat to a brave adventurer.
