It consumes 2 Water per harvest (less advanced Growing Tray needed 3 Water). If you wire the Hydro Tray to 4W of power, it will grow plants 6 times as fast as it would without power. If you leave it unpowered, plants will grow at the same rate as in Growing Tray.
At optimal efficiency (when fully powered, with Organic Soup as liquid and Superior Fertilizer as fertilizer), a Hydro Tray can grow plants 15-17 times faster than they normally grow on soil. However, other liquids/fertilizers may be more practical in your situation.
The only way to grow plants even faster is a Community Garden in a very large town. However, since you can't have more than one Community Garden per town, Hydro Trays are still very valuable, as you can place many of them in the same area.
Useful facts
