A reusable, one-handed gadget, the Hookshot fires a hook from a pressurized gas cylinder that is not affected by gravity, and at speeds much higher than Rope. On latching on to a surface, the device immediately begins retracting, pulling the user towards the hook. With its relatively affordable crafting recipe, 1-handed nature that allows it to be used with other tools like Rope, Flashlights or even weapons, it is an indispensable part of any explorer's toolbelt.

Tips
A one-handed tool, the Hookshot is suitable for dual-wielding with Rope, Grappling Hook or a Web Shooter to allow the user easy access to both modes of grappling, auto-retract or free hanging.
Trying to dual wield two hookshots is pointless, however, as you can only use one hookshot at a time (unlike with the Grappling Hook.)
With some practice, the Hookshot can be used to travel laterally quickly by pulling the user across the ground.
The Hookshot can cancel fall damage by hookshoting the ground before you hit it.
The Hookshot can be dual-wielded with a Shield to pull the user past many dungeon traps while blocking, trivializing many hazards.
While effective by its own, upgrading the Hookshot at least once is highly recommended for the vastly improved performance, especially if one wishes to use it to effectively avoid fall damage or for lateral travel.
Notes
The Hookshot's effective range is severely reduced when fired through liquids.
