These items can be used to refuel the player's ship. They are loaded into the Fuel Hatch. Fuel is spent when traveling to other stars (travel within the system is free), and the cost is affected by discounts from Crew and Fuel Purifiers (up to a maximum of 99% fuel cost reduction). Fuel purifiers grant a flat discount per purifier and can stack up to 4 purifiers with no diminishing returns, while crew members grant various levels of discounts from 2% to 20% and can stack infinitely albeit with diminishing returns.

Trivia
- In vanilla Starbound, only Erchius was valid fuel. Most types of fuel in FU can be produced without visiting the Moon, and some fuels (such as Hydrogen or Energiflower) can be easily automated.
- Infinity Express sells Liquid Erchius Fuel for 5 pixels, so if you are rich, you can throw money at the problem instead of obtaining the fuel yourself.
